Book Review: Battery Health, Safety and Environment

From the mid-seventeenth century, when humankind stepped onto the path of industrialization and sought its interests and welfare in the flickering flames of industry, up to today—some 350 years on—remarkable advances have been made in all fields, and the battery industry has been no exception to this rule. Today, in human societies, there are many devices that operate directly by means of a battery, or in which the battery plays a key role in their operation. Indeed, advancement in this industry has grown to such an extent that today the continued life of a number of human beings depends directly on this industry, and the proper, sound functioning of this device is a fundamental factor in their death or survival. The rechargeable battery of the heart is an emerging invention by means of which cardiologists and biomedical engineers have been able to treat some people suffering from heart failure. Also, in this industry, batteries are produced in very large sizes with very high charge storage and great power, several of which placed together can supply the electrical energy of a factory or a unit for a specified period.
