Sulfuric acid is a very strong mineral acid, formerly known as "oil of vitriol"; it is a very strong acid that dissolves in water at any percentage. Sulfuric acid was first discovered by Jabir ibn Hayyan. He obtained this acid by distilling the minerals iron sulfate and copper sulfate. Sulfuric acid is among the most widely used chemicals. This substance has many applications in chemical reactions and the production processes of other compounds; its principal uses are in chemical fertilizer (phosphate) plants, metal extraction, chemical syntheses, synthetic dyes and pigments, the steel and metallurgy industries, and so on. Sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) is used in the chemical industries. It is also used in the paper-making and pulp-making industries, the petrochemical industry and gas neutralization, the soap-making and detergent industries, the production of synthetic silk, and so on.
This book has been compiled in 2 chapters, the table of contents of which is as follows: * Identity and nature of the substances * Hazard diamond and protective symbols * Toxicology, exposure limits, and hazardous quantities * Physical and chemical properties * Firefighting measures * Methods of dealing with emergency conditions * Health hazards * First aid and so on
