Basic points: Although fasting is not required for many tests, fasting is preferable for certain reasons. So, as far as possible, come to the laboratory without having eaten breakfast. For a lipid (fat) test, observing 12 to 14 hours of fasting is mandatory. Avoid consuming any kind of liquids (tea, coffee, alcohol, etc.) except water. Come to the laboratory before 8 a.m. After the fasting blood sample is taken, eat your usual daily breakfast. As soon as you begin eating breakfast, note the time. Exactly 2 hours after the recorded time, come for sampling. As far as possible, eat breakfast at the laboratory and wait at the laboratory until the second sampling. During the test (over the 2 hours), refrain from exercise and walking. After eating breakfast and during these 2 hours, refrain from eating or drinking anything. Do the fasting and 2-hour blood sugar tests on the same day. Take your blood-sugar-lowering medications and insulin as directed by your treating physician. Collecting a complete urine sample - urine culture A urine sample is used to detect the presence of certain substances and cells, including sugar, protein, and blood, and to diagnose urinary tract infections; therefore, the following points should be observed. A urine culture test should be done before starting antibiotics. If you have taken antibiotics at the time of your visit, it is better, with your physician's advice, to prepare the sample for the urine culture 72 hours after taking the medication.
